DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.238.112973

Authors: Hong Truong Luu, Nga Nguyen-Phi, Quoc Dat Nguyen, Hieu Cuong Nguyen, Hong Thien Van, Xuan Bach Nguyen-Le

Abstract: Typhonium obtusum is described as a new species endemic to Vietnam. It is unique in the genus in having an oblong-elliptic spathe limb with an obtuse apex and yellowish-greenish filiform staminodes with a down-curved acumen. The ecology, distribution and assessment of the conservation status of the new taxon, as well as a key to all known Typhonium species in Vietnam, are provided.

A new species of Amorphophallus (Araceae) from northeastern Thailand https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/106466/ PhytoKeys 229: 131-138

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.229.106466

Authors: Wilawan Promprom, Wannachai Chatan, Pattana Pasorn, Narueset Prasertsri, Thinnakon Angkahad

Abstract: Amorphophallus sakonnakhonensis Chatan & Promprom, a new species from northeastern Thailand, is described and illustrated. The new species is most similar to A. harmandii Engl. & Gehrm. and A. linearis Gagnep., but it is distinguished by the combination of characters as follows: clear differences with A. harmandii are shorter style; disc-like, slightly smooth surface, concave centre, ca. 0.2 × 0.1 mm stigma; slightly cylindrical, slightly narrower upper part of staminate flower zone; slightly cylindrical to elongate-fusiform, erect or slightly erect, creamy white appendix. The clearly distinct morphology with A. linearis are disc-like, slightly smooth surface, concave centre, ca. 0.2 × 0.1 mm stigma; elliptic or obovate leaflet; 1–3 cm long, creamy white appendix. The preliminary conservation status was assessed, and the distinct characteristics of similar species were discussed.

Typifications of some species names in Anthurium section Pachyneurium (Araceae) https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/65087/ PhytoKeys 178: 95-109

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.178.65087

Authors: Mel de Castro Camelo, Lívia Godinho Temponi, Simon Joseph Mayo, Marcus Alberto Nadruz Coelho, José Fernando A. Baumgratz

Abstract: During a taxonomic study of Anthurium sect. Pachyneurium, it was found that the names of four species required typification. Verification of the protologues and cited collections is discussed and typifications are proposed as follows: the illustration Schott Icones Aroideae No. 465 is designated as the neotype of A. affine Schott. A lectotype is designated for A. bonplandii G.S.Bunting since the holotype, cited in the protologue at MY, was not found there. An epitype is selected for A. solitarium Schott because the lectotype illustration of J.M.C. Vellozo (Flora Fluminensis t. 123) lacks sufficient detail to determine it unambiguously to species in A. sect. Pachyneurium. A lectotype is selected for A. glaziovii Hook.f., a synonym of A. solitarium.

New species of Anthurium Schott (Araceae) from the Kõkõi Eujã Natural Traditional Reserve of the Pacific coast, Cauca Department, Colombia https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/53303/ PhytoKeys 156: 73-79

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.156.53303

Authors: Jhon A. Sánchez-Taborda, Martin Llano-Almario, Alejandro Zuluaga-Tróchez

Abstract: The Kõkõi Eujã Natural Traditional Reserve was created in 2019 to protect the golden poison frog (Phyllobates terribilis Myers, Daly & Malkin, 1978) in the Cauca Department of Colombia. As part of the biodiversity inventory of the reserve a new species of Anthurium with scandent habit was discovered. The new species is endemic to Colombia and it is more similar to A. caldodsonii Croat, A. boekei Croat, and A. scandens (Aubl.) Engl., but differs by having widely lanceolate leaves with acuminate apex, cuneate base, and acrodromous venation with three pairs of basal veins.

Colocasia kachinensis, a new species of Araceae from Myanmar https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/36769/ PhytoKeys 138: 41-47

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.138.36769

Authors: Shi-Shun Zhou, Rui-Chang Quan, Ren Li, Qiang Liu, Jian-Tao Yin

Abstract: Colocasia kachinensis S.S. Zhou & J.T. Yin, is described and illustrated as a new species of Araceae from Kachin, Mynamar. The morphological characters are compared to those of other Colocasia species. Colocasia kachinensis is closely related to C. menglaensis J.T Yin, H. Li & Z.F. Xu, 2004, but differs from in having an erect stem, no stolons, smaller size, a different pattern of surface bristle distribution and male flowers 1–4-androus with stamens connate in truncate synandrium.

Two new species of Chlorospatha section Orientales (Araceae) from western Andes in Colombia https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/38050/ PhytoKeys 135: 21-34

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.135.38050

Authors: Allison Muñoz-Castillo, Leonardo Guevara-Ibarra, Laura Clavijo, Alejandro Zuluaga

Abstract: Two new species of Chlorospatha (section Orientales) from the western slope of the Cordillera Occidental in the departments of Valle del Cauca and Choco (Colombia) are described here. The new species represent the first records of section Orientales for Colombia, which was previously known only from the eastern Andes in Ecuador. The two new species are similar to C. longipoda, C. hannoniae and C. boosii. Chlorospatha minima sp. nov. is differentiated by its small overall size (less than 30 cm tall), blade strongly inequilateral with smooth adaxial surface, and spadix less than 2.2 cm long. Chlorospatha silverstonei sp. nov. is differentiated by its large overall size (30–60 cm tall), 1–3 leaves per plant, and quilted adaxial blade surface.

Recognition of the genus Thaumatophyllum Schott − formerly Philodendron subg. Meconostigma (Araceae) − based on molecular and morphological evidence https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/article/25044/ PhytoKeys 98: 51-71

DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.98.25044

Authors: Cassia Mônica Sakuragui, Luana Silva Braucks Calazans, Leticia Loss de Oliveira, Érica Barroso de Morais, Ana Maria Benko-Iseppon, Santelmo Vasconcelos, Carlos Eduardo Guerra Schrago, Simon Joseph Mayo

Abstract: Philodendron subgenus Meconostigma has been a well-circumscribed group since 1829. Members of this group are easily distinguished by diagnostic morphological characters as well as by a distinct ecology and geographical distribution. Based on molecular, morphological and cytological evidence, we propose the recognition of P. subg. Meconostigma as a distinct genus, Thaumatophyllum Schott. We also present the necessary new combinations, an emended key and some nomenclatural and taxonomic corrections regarding 21 names of Thaumatophyllum.
